North Tartan 11U West finishes the Season with 9 straight wins!
7/7/14 - 02:29 PM

Wow What a finish!  We finished the season with an 18 - 8 record.  Throughout the year we talked about how we want to improve throughout the year and at the end of the year be playing our best basketball.

The winning streak started down in Ames, Iowa.  We lost our first game to All Iowa Attack and then we won the next four games.  Two games we won by 1 point.  One of the games was a double overtime thriller!  We played our best game the last game of the tournament.  Our defense stood tough and we were able to control the game from start to finish.

We brought our 4 game winning streak into Summer Jam.  We played well throughout pool play winning with our defense.  In the first half of each game we were able to hold our opponents to single digits and we scored 22 points in each half.  Our defense helped lead us to transition baskets and we were able to limit the other team to one shot per possession.  Then in the championship game we beat Stars Myers.  This was a huge win for us.  This team had given us some trouble earlier in the season and were able to win the championship 46 - 45.  Our girls never gave up.  We found ourselves down by 9 a couple times and our team kept battling back.  They never gave up and continued to beleive in themselves and what they were doing.

It was a great honor to coach these girls.  These girls will continue to work hard and improve on their skills throughout the summer and into the school season.  Thanks for everyone who was involved!

North Tartan 11U West takes 4th place at State.
5/20/14 - 06:19 AM

We came into the State tournament seeded #5.  We started out playing the 12 seeded Stars-Holmquist team.  We started slow and ended up going on a run during the middle of the second half to extend our lead.  They had the final possession to score but our defense held strong for the win.

The second game we played was against NC Heat.  We lost to them two weeks earlier at the qualifier.  This was a tough game.  They had a 9 point lead at one time and our team kept battling and final took the lead and held on to the lead to win the game.  Our kids battled every possession and took pride in getting defensive stops and limiting our turnovers.  Now we were moving on to the final four.

We then played North Tartan 11U.  This was a battle to start.  Our kids handled pressure well and our defense played great.  North Tartan 11U is a very good team and got the best of us.  They are a very deep team with no real weaknesses.  Our kids played well and gave them their best game of the tournament.

We were then playing Stars-Myers for third place.  Our kids struggled to score a bit in the game.  The Stars played good defense which limited our opportunities.  We were able to make a few runs in this game but never enough to get over the hump against this team.  We will continue to improve throughout the year.  Thanks for all the support this weekend.

North Tartan 11U West takes 5th place at Qualifier
5/6/14 - 06:24 AM

This past weekend NT 11U West took 5th place at the qualifier.  We started out playing Friday night at 5:30 and had a slow start.  We dug ourselves a hole trailing 11-2.  We were able to fight back and get within 2.  We had a couple looks to tie and and to take the lead late in the game but we just couldn't do it.  We lost the first game 39-36.  The next day we played the Metro Stars and we were able to jump out to an early lead and maintain that lead throughout the whole game.  Our second half we were able to cut down on our turnovers and play some good basketball.

In our second game of the day we battled the Fury Blue team.  It was a back and forth game and in the second half we came out with some energy and were able to jump out to an 11 point lead.  The lead slowly evaporated and we ended up losing by 3.  Our girls battled and hopefully were able to take some things away from this game which will help us in the future.  We ended up getting seeded 3rd in our pool which had us match up against North Iowa Fire.  Once again this was a back and forth game and we had a 1 point half time lead.  Then our defense picked it up and we were able to get about an 8 point lead.  From there we hung on to win 37 - 30 and finish 5th overall.

NT 11U West takes 3rd place at the MN Fury Spring showdown
4/28/14 - 06:47 PM

What a great way to start the season!  Started the season with a 3rd place finish going 3-1 on the weekend.  The girls worked extremely hard all weekend and by the end of the weekend were really clicking together.

In the first game we played Crossfire and started the game with a 9 - 0. Our defense really stepped up to help us get a lead.  At half it was 19 - 10.  Then in the second half we held Crossfire to only 5 points!  Tori Peschel led the way with 11 points.

In the second game we faced off against MN Comets.  In this game our defense was the story again.  We only gave up 2 points in the first half and 7 total for the game.  This game was true team defense as the final score was 43 - 7.  Our players worked extremely hard and executed the way we are capable of.  Kendal Cox and Kitri Reimer had 8 and 7 point respectively.  Our passing was exceptional as we were always finding the open teammate on nearly every play.  After winning our first two games that put us in the championship bracket for Sunday.

Our first game Sunday had us playing E1T1.  We were down at half by a score of 22 - 17.  Then we started the half on a 5 - 0 run which made it a tie game.  After that we struggled offensively and defensively we gave up too many easy baskets.  E1T1 got a 50 - 35 victory. Kendal Cox led us in scoring with 14 points.

Our final game of the tournament had us playing South Dakota Network.  It was a tie game right before half time and we ended the first half on a 7 - 0 run making the half time score 19 - 12.  We came out in the second half playing the best half of basketball that we have played yet.  We held SD Network to 7 points in the second half while scoring 24 points.  The final score was 43 - 19.  Tori Peschel hit 3 - 3  pointers to spark us in the second half.

Overall, this weekend was a TEAM weekend!  We shared the ball and played as a team on the offensive and defensive ends of the floor.  We played hard the whole time no matter what the score and situation was.  The girls left it all on the floor!  We talked about the things that we can control in a game which are R.E.A.D which stands for Rebounding, Effort, Attitude, Defense.  If we can take care of these 4 things throughout the season we will be in good shape.  When we were playing our best defense we were tough to beat.  When our defense let us down we struggled from time to time over the weekend.  We hope every weekend all the girls have fun and improve throughout the weekend.  Next weekend we will be playing in the qualifier.  Thanks for all the support!
